Yesterday, after another lengthy 8-hour flight, I touched down in Roswell, New Mexico (KROW), marking my entrance into the rugged terrain of the American West. A quick fuel stop in Rusk County, Texas (54J), helped me push onward, driven by the thrill of exploration.

Freedom of Flight
Departing from a non-controlled airport was a welcome respite from the usual paperwork and formalities. I reveled in the simplicity of jumping into Diana, firing up the engine, and taking to the skies. The flight itself was smooth sailing, with scarce clouds and a vast expanse of American flatness unfolding before me. Sparkling lakes and rivers added a touch of magic to the landscape.

An Unexpected Detour
Initially, I aimed to stretch my fuel tank as far as possible, hoping to reach the western edge of Texas. However, a quick refuel in Rusk County gave me the boost I needed to press onward into New Mexico. It wasn’t until I arrived at my hotel that I realized I had stumbled upon Roswell, the infamous town linked to a 1947 UFO incident (not 1974). The town’s alien-themed charm was a delightful surprise, complete with extraterrestrial-inspired lamp posts and the Roswell UFO Museum.

The Final Stretch
Today, I’ll be winging my way to Los Angeles, where I’ll spend the night reconnecting with friends and indulging in some Tango dancing. The adventure is winding down, but the memories and experiences will stay with me forever. Tomorrow, I’ll embark on the final leg of my journey, heading back home on Saturday.
