Tomorrow’s the day! January 3rd, 7am wheels-up, and my mind’s racing with last-minute checks. Today, I loaded Diana, my trusty plane, and met with Dobri, my adventure partner for the first few legs to Puerto Rico. We reviewed plane systems and gear, route details, and provisions. We’re set to meet at Hayward Airport (KHWD) at 6am.
These final days have been intense. Unexpected issues arose before even leaving California! During my Monterrey flight with my mother, I discovered a cracked left landing gear door. Thankfully, Savage Aviation at HWD delivered swift repairs, avoiding delays. Their expertise shines – they also facilitated my “owner assisted” annual inspection a few weeks ago, a valuable learning experience.
Tomorrow’s ambitious plan is to reach Texas (KSXU or KHRX). If we feel courageous add another 2-3 hour leg if daylight allows. I’m targeting Florida (KFXE) by Saturday and Puerto Rico (TJIG) by Sunday. Clear skies are essential; fingers crossed!
As I wind down for the big adventure, excitement builds. Next update, I’ll be airborne!
